On the day
In person at Birmingham Dental Hospital during February half-term week; overseas applicants are expected to attend too. Your 2.5 hour slot is 30 minutes of registration, about an hour of interview and an hour's tour with students, in either order.
Stations are often split into two four-minute halves on unrelated questions, while a role play runs the full eight minutes. Expect puzzles, creativity prompts and data to interpret rather than the usual questions; the school asks for unrehearsed answers.
The manual dexterity station is hands-on and dental: students describe setting up equipment, handling drills, polishing a tooth and threading a suture after one demonstration. Talk through what your hands are doing.
One or two assessors per station, who know nothing about you, mark on a tablet as you speak. Your behaviour across the whole visit, tour included, may count.
Academic record and UCAT are not looked at again, and a panel reviews tied performances anonymously. Decisions (offer, rejection or reserve list) usually arrive within four weeks of the interview week. Anyone rejected after a Birmingham dentistry interview is not considered again.
