Home applicants (UK and Republic of Ireland) interview in person at the Dental School in Belfast in two batches, December and late February, and cannot ask for online. The 15 international places are interviewed online after a test call; 2024 entry internationals described a recorded-video platform, and no later applicant has described the online format.
The school publishes no station count, timings or scoring. December 2024 interviewees said the invite described eight short interviews over about 40 minutes, one minute to read each question and four to answer, with a timer on the table and no rest stations. Prep sites still describe the older four-room circuit.
No manual dexterity or practical task is mentioned by the school; applicants describe spoken question stations and role plays only.
The 2026 policy lists nine attributes tested (resilience, maturity, communication, confidence, self-awareness, empathy, ethical values, professionalism, awareness of dental training); the 2027 policy cuts the list to four.
By turning up you are deemed fit: extenuating circumstances must be stated when booking, and any complaint about the day must go to the Director by email that day.
Once interviewed, the decision rests solely on interview rank order, with the UCAT SJT separating borderline home applicants on similar scores; the same order is used if places open up in August. Home outcomes from both batches come out together on UCAS in late March, so December candidates wait about three months. Applicants not offered a place are held rather than rejected and later told their rank position; international offers come in mid April.
