On the day
One Microsoft Teams meeting with both interviewers throughout. You book a 30 minute slot; the four questions take about 20 minutes. One interview covers both the BDS and the Enhanced Support Dentistry Programme if you applied to both.
Not an MMI any more: since 2023 entry King's runs one online panel of two interviewers asking four timed questions of five minutes each, each scored separately. Its page still contrasts this with the old six-interviewer MMI.
Students say the four questions follow four themes: motivation and insight through your work experience, skills and qualities (often two of the four), professionalism against GDC principles, and an ethics or 'should' question, often as a situational scenario. One question can have several parts.
Each answer is marked out of 10 for content and 10 for communication by both interviewers, according to students who have seen their feedback. Five minutes is long: expand your answer, and expect a prompt rather than a follow-up if you finish early.
Interviewers are deliberately deadpan ('poker face'), so do not read anything into their reactions. Raise any problem on the day; mitigating circumstances are not considered afterwards.
No notes allowed.
King's does not publish how it ranks after interview; students say the two interviewers' scores are summed and UCAT is not revisited. Most interviewees are held until all interviews are done, with offers in batches from about February and waitlist decisions through to May. Interview scores are not released.
