On the day
Online on Zoom. The Dental Schools Council's 2027 booklet lists the method as online MMI, and 2026 entry applicants again report online interviews in February, with the Zoom link in an interview booklet in the applicant portal.
A manual dexterity station done on camera: origami, with instructions emailed about 48 hours before, while the interviewer talks to you. Marked on precision rather than finishing; 2026 entry applicants confirm it still ran.
Applicants report 9 questions marked out of 15 (135 total), each on how well the listed attributes come through, plus the red flag. The same process page serves medicine and dentistry: five stations, four interviewers, about 55 minutes.
Not a test of dental or scientific knowledge: stations map to eight NHS-aligned qualities, and the personal statement is not considered at any point.
Candidates are ranked on interview score and the top performers get offers; academic and UCAT or GAMSAT scores are not revisited. A yes/no red flag for unsuitability sits alongside the numerical score, and contextual markers (Peninsula Pathway, or a South-West rural and coastal postcode) may be applied. Unsuccessful applicants can ask for their overall score. For 2026 entry only, applicants were told home places were cut to about 20 after over-recruitment, so invitations and offers ran late.
