On the day

Selection day at the School of Clinical Dentistry in late February; invitations go out towards the end of January and you pick a date. All interviews are face to face.

Not an MMI: one 15 minute semi-structured panel with two academic staff and a senior dental student, assessing career exploration, personal qualities and communication, and commitment to Sheffield, with reference to your personal statement.

A separate group task, the interpersonal skills test, has you tackle a problem or dilemma with other candidates; no clinical knowledge is needed and it is marked on respect, teamwork and communication.

You are assessed throughout the visit: behaviour that seriously contravenes GDC standards or NHS values at any point gets the application withdrawn.

How offers are made
100%interview performance alone

Offers go to the strongest interview performances once every selection day has run, usually by the end of March. Weaker but acceptable performances go to a reserve list ranked by interview, then UCAT, then at random, used only if places remain on results day. The school does not say how the group task counts alongside the panel.
