A-Levels
GCSE
- GCSE English Language grade C/4 is required.1
- GCSE Maths grade C/4 is required if Maths isn't taken at AS/A-Level.1
- No minimum number of GCSEs - it's your best 9 that are scored.2
- GCSEs only count if taken at the usual school stage and first time - unless you sat one a year early and repeated it at the normal stage.2
- If you haven't taken GCSEs or equivalent qualifications, your academic score is calculated from school reports instead.1
UCAT
Age
- You must be at least 16 at the start of the course.2
Resits & reapplying
- Resits are accepted only if you firmed a Queen's offer first time and got AAB. Resit offer: AAA including Biology and Chemistry. A-Levels must be sat within two years of GCSEs.2
- Maximum four application cycles in total, any dental school - at most two at A-Level and two as a graduate. Reapplicants with achieved grades are considered only if QUB was one of their choices first time.2
- If you've previously started a dental degree anywhere, you won't normally be considered.2
- Transfers from another dental school aren't accepted.1
- If you've started another degree, you must finish the year, pass every exam first time and average 60%. QUB says this rule is under review for 2027.2
Selection & shortlisting
- All Home applicants who meet the minimum requirements are scored out of 45, and interview places go from the top down:1
- Personal statement isn't scored and work experience isn't required, but you must state Dentistry as your career choice - you can't apply for both Medicine and Dentistry.2
- Ties are split on AS-Levels and extra GCSE A grades.1
- Resitters and those with achieved grades get the full 36 academic points and are ranked on UCAT alone - which must be retaken each cycle.2
- The 2025 threshold was 36 out of 42. UCAT is now worth 9 points instead of 6, so our estimate for next cycle is ~38 out of 45.2
- 45 Home places (UK and ROI); international applicants are ranked separately for 15.1

What UCAT score do you need for Dentistry at QUB?
