A-Levels
- You must be taking Biology and Chemistry plus a third academic subject.1
- General Studies, Critical Thinking and Vocational/Applied A-Levels aren't accepted.1
- Science A-Levels must include a pass in the practical endorsement.1
- Resits with accepted extenuating circumstances still need BBB at the first sitting, evidence submitted by 15 October.1
GCSE
- At least grade B/6 in English Language, Maths and Science - Biology GCSE if you haven't taken Dual Science.1
- A minimum of 8 GCSEs, with at least 5 at grade A/7 and 3 at grade B/6 - all achieved before you apply.1
- Vocational/Applied GCSEs (BTECs, Cambridge Nationals) and GCSE Maths Numeracy aren't accepted; two short courses count as one full GCSE.1
UCAT
- SJT Band 4 is rejected - it isn't considered a competitive score.1
Age
- You must be 18 by 1 October of your entry year.1
Resits & reapplying
- You need evidence of recent academic study - within the last 5 years.1
- Resits aren't accepted, nor retaking Year 12 or 13 - all three A-Levels in one sitting over two years. Retaking an AS module within those years is fine.1
- GCSE resits are accepted - one resit per subject, completed by the time you apply.
- Rejected before interview, you can reapply next year once you hold the grades. Rejected after interview, you won't be reconsidered.1
- Transfers onto the BDS aren't accepted.2
Selection & shortlisting
- All applicants who meet the minimum requirements are scored out of 100, and interview places go from the top down:1
- UCAT and SJT - 40 points. Up to 20 for your UCAT total and 20 for your SJT band.1
- Non-academic questionnaire - 60 points. A structured personal statement on work experience and motivation, emailed 1 October-15 November. Return it within 2 weeks or your application is rejected.2
- The personal statement isn't scored but is reviewed at interview - show work experience or shadowing in dental settings, ideally more than one. References aren't scored.1
- Lowest score invited to interview: 43 out of 100 in 2025 (20 in 2024, 26 in 2023).

- All applicants are shortlisted together in one pool - the separate Home (70) and international (4) quotas apply at the offer stage.

Contextual applicants (IMD quintile 1 postcode, care-experienced, Liverpool Scholars, Disrupted Studies) get special consideration at interview selection and at offer - but no reduced offer and no separate pool.
Interview & decision
- MMIs, mid-January to end of February - in person for Home, online for international. No manual dexterity test.1
- Offers are decided on interview score alone - everyone at or above the cut score gets an offer. Decisions arrive by the end of March.1
- If you miss your offer but a remark confirms the grade, your place is deferred to the next year's entry.1
