Entry requirements

A-Levels

  • You must be taking Chemistry or Biology plus a second science (Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Maths), predicted A*AA. Third subject is free.1
  • Further Maths isn't accepted if Maths is your second A-Level, and doesn't count towards the A*AA if taken in the same sitting as Maths.1
  • Extenuating circumstances can't be applied to a UCAT score.2

GCSE

  • Six GCSEs at 777666 including Biology, Chemistry, English and Maths - Double Science can replace the separate sciences.1
  • GCSEs aren't required for graduates, or for international applicants who didn't study them.1

UCAT

  • No fixed UCAT cutoff - your score can't be in the bottom 30% of the applicant pool, so the floor moves each year. No exemptions.1
  • SJT Band 4 is auto-rejected at first shortlisting.1

Age

  • You must be 18 by the start of the course (mid-September) - younger applicants can apply for deferred entry.1

Resits & reapplying

  • Resits only with extenuating circumstances (illness, family circumstances, bereavement) approved before you apply. You also need BBB first time and a QMUL Medicine or Dentistry application last cycle.2
  • Reapplying is fine if you got the required grades first time.3
  • Previous medical or dental study only rules you out if you were deregistered for not progressing to the next year.4
  • Transfers aren't accepted.5
How QMUL selects for interview

Selection & shortlisting

  • All applicants who meet the minimum requirements are ranked on a single score out of 2868, and interview places go from the top down:3
    • UCAT - up to 2700 points. Your raw total, added directly - by far the bigger part of the score.3
    • A-Level tariff - up to 168 points. AAA = 144, A*AA = 152, A*A*A = 160, A*A*A* = 168 - predicted and achieved grades score identically. QMUL doesn't publish the dentistry table; this is its medicine one.3
  • In 2026 the Home threshold was 2378 (UCAT total plus A-Level tariff; lowest UCAT invited 2210) - our estimate for next cycle is ~2420.
  • Home and Overseas applicants are ranked in separate pools, each with its own cut-off and offer numbers.6
  • The personal statement isn't scored - but may come up at interview.3
  • Work experience isn't scored - but show career exploration, ideally in general dental practice.3

Contextual eligibility

Who qualifies

QMUL counts you as contextual on Home fee status only. Any one of the markers below qualifies you on its own - except the last pair, which only counts together.

Any one of these on its ownEnough by itself

An IMD-disadvantaged postcode qualifies you here only alongside a below-average school - unlike ACORN above, it is not a standalone marker at QMUL.

What it changes

The guaranteed interview still needs the minimum GCSEs, predictions of at least AAA, and a UCAT outside the bottom 30% with SJT Band 1-3.
