A-Levels
- You must be taking Biology and Chemistry, both at grade A minimum.1
- General Studies, Critical Thinking, Thinking Skills and Global Perspectives are not accepted as one of your A-Levels.1
- You must pass the practical endorsement in all Science A-Levels (private candidates exempt).1
- EPQ is not considered at any point of the assessment process.1

Age
- You must turn 18 before starting the second year of the degree - KCL's unusual age rule checks the start of Year 2, not Year 1.1
Resits & reapplying
- Resits are accepted and considered equally with first sittings; second resits need significant mitigating circumstances. Retaking the same subject at the same level - even in a different qualification - counts as a resit.1
- Reapplying is fine - previously unsuccessful applicants can apply again in a later cycle with a new UCAS application and a valid UCAT from that year; each application is judged on its own cycle.
- Transfers into MBBS are not permitted from another medicine programme.1
Selection & shortlisting
- KCL ranks you for interview on a single score out of 170, built from four parts:
- UCAT - up to 100 points. Your percentile within KCL's applicant pool (100 = top).
- SJT - up to 10 points. Band 1 = 10, Band 2 = 5, Bands 3-4 = 0.
- GCSEs - up to 40 points. Counted by A*s (grade 8 or 9, any subject): fewer than five A*s = 0 points, then 10/20/30/40 points for 5/6/7/8+.
- Widening participation - up to 20 points. For applicants meeting KCL's WP criteria; how the 20 points split isn't published - our estimate follows KCL's own tiers, weighting its strongest markers (K+, free school meals, care experience, estrangement) at the full 20, the additional-consideration markers lower, and postcode measures lower again.
- A-Levels earn no points - they're an eligibility gate only. The personal statement and reference are read but never scored.1
- The threshold depends on each year's applicants - our estimate is that 115 out of 170 gives a realistic chance of an interview.

No contextual reduced offer for A100 - the conditional offer stays A*AA. Contextually eligible applicants are pointed to the Extended Medical Degree Programme MBBS (A101), a separate widening-participation course with its own lower entry route.
Interview & decision
- Interviews are online MMIs, held November to May. Stations assess communication skills, social and ethical issues and general suitability.1
- Offers go to the top performers by interview score until the offer target is reached - there's no post-interview re-rank against UCAT or GCSEs.
- Deferred entry is accepted for Home applicants on a case-by-case basis (not guaranteed). Overseas fee-paying applicants cannot defer, with a narrow exception for military/national service.1
- KCL normally expect work experience in a caring environment and/or observation in a clinical setting; public-facing settings (pharmacy, retail, restaurant) are accepted if clinical experience isn't possible.1
- If you get an offer, you must evidence meeting all requirements by early August of your entry year.1

What UCAT score do you need for Medicine at KCL?
In the 2024 cycle, the lowest UCAT score invited to interview (home applicants) was 1730 (converted from the old 4-section scale). You must sit the UCAT in your application year. There's no cut-off - your UCAT is the biggest part of the pre-interview ranking. SJT Band 4 isn't auto-rejected, but it hurts - Bands 3 and 4 score 0 of the 10 SJT points in the pre-interview ranking.
