Entry requirements
A-Levels
Offer: AAA at A-Level including at least two science subjects, one of which must be Chemistry — all A-Levels taken in one sitting. The same AAA bar applies to predicted grades, which are used for interview selection. [4]
Resits are accepted but all A-Levels must be sat in the same exam period (academic year), and only one resit attempt per subject is accepted. The course page wording is *"All A-Levels must be taken in one sitting"*; UCLan's FOIA officer clarified this means resits are allowed only within the same exam period. [5]
A satisfactory DBS/Disclosure Scotland criminal-records declaration and Occupational Health clearance are required; international students also need an in-country police check. [6]
GCSE
Minimum grade B / 5 in GCSE Maths and English. [11]
UCAT
No fixed minimum UCAT score — UCLan has never applied a fixed UCAT cut-off. The interview threshold is set dynamically from each cycle's applicant pool and is not known beforehand. UK applicants must sit the UCAT (valid for one year only). [12]
No SJT band exclusion — UCLan has never applied a fixed cut-off to UCAT or SJT scores, so there is no automatic SJT-band rejection.
International Baccalaureate
Offer: 36 points overall (144 UCAS tariff) including Chemistry and another science at Higher Level grade 6, plus one further HL subject at 6. [7]
Scottish Highers
Offer: AAAAB at Higher including Chemistry and a second science — or AAA at Advanced Higher (Chemistry + a second science), or AA at two Advanced Highers plus an A in one Higher, with Chemistry and the second science both at Advanced Higher. [8]
Other qualifications
Graduates: a 2:1 (or above) Honours degree in an applied/experimental science (bioscience, chemistry, physics, engineering or majority allied-health subject) — or a 2:1 in another area (e.g. Humanities, Social Sciences) plus BBB at A-Level with two sciences including Chemistry. There is no separate 4-year graduate-entry MBBS; graduates join the 5-year programme. [10]
Irish Leaving Certificate
Irish Leaving Certificate applicants are directed to the standard UCAS-tariff (144-point) UK requirements plus GCSE English grade B — UCLan publishes no specific H-grade profile. [9]
Application history
One further consecutive reapplication is allowed. If you fail to gain a place you may make only one further consecutive application to the MBBS programme. [13]
How UCLan selects for interview
Raw total UCAT score ranks home applicants for interview (no normalisation, deciles or z-scores). The cut-off line is wherever the dynamic threshold falls in a given cycle.
There is no published or fixed cut-off — the threshold is set per cycle. The lowest non-contextual home UCAT invited for 2025 entry was 2400 (on the old 4-section scale, max 3600); contextual applicants reached interview at lower scores. [12]
