Entry requirements
A-Levels
Offer: AAA including Chemistry and one of Biology, Physics or Maths. The same AAA floor applies to predicted grades, and achieved-grade applicants are treated identically. [7]
GCSE
GCSE English Literature or English Language at grade B/6 required for UK A-Level applicants (Scottish-Highers applicants need National 5 English at B instead). [13]
GCSE Biology at B/6 required only if Biology is not taken at A-Level. [14]
GCSEs are not capped — Glasgow does not select from a best-N count.
UCAT
No fixed UCAT minimum — the cut-off varies year to year depending on cohort performance and is dynamically set.
No SJT band is excluded — Band 4 does not result in automatic rejection, and the SJT band is not otherwise used.
International Baccalaureate
Offer: 38 points with 6,6,6 at Higher Level including HL Chemistry and Biology, plus Physics or Maths at 6 (SL accepted, HL recommended) and SL English at 6. [8]
Scottish Highers
Offer: AAAAB at Higher in S5 plus BB at Advanced Higher in S6, including Higher Chemistry, Biology and Physics or Maths, with National 5 English at grade B. Offers are conditional on S6 performance, and Highers taken in S4 don't count towards the S5 grades. [9]
Higher Application of Maths does not substitute for Higher Mathematics or Physics. [10]
Other qualifications
Glasgow runs a Gateway to Medical Studies programme — a one-year widening-access Certificate in Higher Education for students resident in Scotland who meet widening-access criteria, leading towards a medicine or life-sciences degree. [11]
Graduates: 2:1 Honours in a relevant science degree, obtained within seven years of entry. Older or non-science degrees need A-level/Higher Chemistry and Biology sat within seven years of entry (minimum AB, or AA with AS-level Biology); a relevant Masters or PhD within seven years also compensates. Graduates must sit the UCAT. [12]
Qualification policies
Resits are not permitted — the required grades and subjects must be obtained at one sitting and at the first attempt, and Glasgow does not accept a mix of qualifications taken at the same level. [6]
Application history
Reapplication is permitted — unsuccessful applicants can apply again in future years, must meet the minimum requirements of the new cycle, and must re-sit the UCAT. [15]
Applicants with previous medical study are not accepted, except for refugees fleeing a war zone.
Fitness-to-practise screening is carried out at the application stage.
How Glasgow selects for interview
Ranking score is the raw UCAT total — applied after academic + personal statement + reference checks have been passed. [16]
