Selection · how they rank for interview
After the academic eligibility checks, Glasgow ranks applicants purely by UCAT total for interview.

Our rating can't assess the personal-statement and reference screen - it assumes both pass.
Full requirements, with sources
A-Levels
- You must be taking Chemistry and one of Biology, Physics or Maths, with predictions of at least AAA.1
GCSE
UCAT
- There's no fixed UCAT cutoff - the threshold is set fresh each year.
- Your SJT band isn't used - no band is auto-rejected.
Resits & reapplying
- Resits are not permitted - the required grades and subjects must come from one sitting, and you can't mix qualifications taken at the same level.1
- Your qualifications must be achieved within seven years of entry - gap years are fine.2
- Reapplying is fine - you must meet the new cycle's minimum requirements and re-sit the UCAT.2
- You're not accepted with previous medical study, except as a refugee fleeing a war zone.
Selection & shortlisting
- Once you pass the academic minimums and the personal-statement and reference screen, your raw UCAT total is the entire ranking - nothing else is scored.3
- Applicants are ranked in three separate fee pools - Home (Scot/EU), RUK and International - each with its own UCAT threshold.
- The 2025 pre-set threshold for rest-of-UK applicants was 1960 (converted to the 2700-scale UCAT) - our estimate is you'd need around 1960 again next cycle.4
- Our rating can't assess the personal-statement and reference screen - it assumes both pass.
- The personal statement and reference aren't scored, but a weak statement or concerns in the reference can mean rejection outright.
- Each year roughly 1,700-2,100 people apply, 800-1,100 are interviewed, and there are about 300-350 places.2

Your UCAT score gets an uplift of 5-20% - the size depends on which contextual markers you hold (Glasgow doesn't publish the mapping). The uplifted score must still reach the year's UCAT threshold.
