A-Levels
- You must be taking Biology/Human Biology or Chemistry, plus a second subject from Chemistry, Biology/Human Biology, Physics, Psychology, Maths or Further Maths.1
- Very similar subject combinations aren't accepted - e.g. Biology with Human Biology, or Maths with Further Maths.1
- Only three A-Levels are counted in any offer.1
- Science A-Levels must include a pass in the practical endorsement.1
GCSE
- At least grade 6 (B) in English Language, Maths and two science subjects. English Literature can't stand in for English Language; Dual Award Science needs BB (66) minimum.1
- Seven GCSEs at grade 7 (A) or above in total.1
- One Level 2 BTEC at Distinction or above is acceptable in lieu of one GCSE (short courses are not accepted).1
UCAT
Resits & reapplying
- Only one of Year 12 or Year 13 may be resat. Year 13 resitters need ABB at the first sitting for the resit grades to count.1
- GCSE resits are permitted; pending resits must be listed on the UCAS form.1
- After two consecutive unsuccessful applications to Manchester, a third isn't considered. Reapplicants must retake the UCAT, keep up their work experience and show a material difference from the previous application.1
- You're not considered if you've started a clinical programme elsewhere.1
- Transfers from other institutions aren't considered - complete your current programme (or reach its final year) before applying.1
Selection & shortlisting
- Your UCAT total is the entire ranking - there's no composite or weighted score. Clear the year's threshold with SJT Band 1 or 2 and you're invited to interview (see the slots rule below).3
- Home and international applicants are ranked separately - the overseas cohort has a higher UCAT threshold.2
- If more candidates clear the threshold than there are slots, ranking is by UCAT total, with SJT band as the tie-break.3
- Manchester does not normally read the personal statement - it can still be consulted in borderline or unusual cases.4

- Five-station MMI, each station 8 minutes. No reading or writing component, and you pick online (Zoom) or on-campus.5
- After interview, offers are decided on interview performance alone - the stations test the values and behaviours expected of a medical student, not academic knowledge.5
- Deferred entry is welcomed if you flag it when you apply; deferring after an offer may not be possible, and is unlikely after results day.1
Conditional offer
- Conditional offer: AAA at the first attempt - A*A*A if you're resitting, in the same required subjects. The EPQ is not normally included in the offer.1
