Entry requirements

A-Levels

  • You must be taking Biology (or Human Biology), with a pass in science practical tests. Predicted grades aren't used - there's no minimum prediction to meet.1
  • General Studies, Critical Thinking, Global Perspectives, Citizenship Studies and the EPQ are not accepted.1

GCSE

  • You need at least six GCSEs at grade 7 or above, including Biology and Chemistry (or Double Science), with at least grade 6 in English Language and Maths.1
  • If you've already completed your A-Levels to the required standard, you only need GCSE English Language, Maths and Chemistry (or Double Science) at grade 6 - unless the subject was taken at A-Level.1

UCAT

  • You must sit the UCAT in your application year. There's no fixed cut-off - the threshold changes each year with the applicant pool.2
  • SJT Band 4 is auto-rejected - Bands 1-3 feed the scoring instead.2

Resits & reapplying

  • Resits are accepted - they must achieve AAA (AAB if contextual, with one A in Biology), within two years of the first sitting.1
  • GCSE resits are permitted but must be awarded by the time of application.1
  • Transfers onto this programme are not permitted.1

How Lincoln selects for interview

Selection & shortlisting

  • Lincoln ranks you for interview on a single Combined Academic Score out of 60, built from three parts (contextual applicants can gain an uplift of up to 12, still capped at 60):2
    • GCSEs - up to 30 points. Your best six count: Biology, Chemistry (or Double Science), Maths and English Language plus your two highest others. Each GCSE scores 9 = 5, 8 = 4, 7 = 3, 6 = 2, 5 = 1, 4 = 0.2
    • UCAT - up to 15 points. Your total is banded: above 2300 = 15, 2170-2290 = 14, 2050-2160 = 12, 1970-2040 = 11, 1910-1960 = 10, 1860-1900 = 9, 1810-1850 = 8, 1750-1800 = 6, 1680-1740 = 4, 1580-1670 = 2, below 1580 = 0.2
    • SJT - up to 15 points. Band 1 = 15, Band 2 = 10, Band 3 = 5, Band 4 = 0 (auto-rejected).2
  • A100 and A106 are ranked separately - you can't apply to both. The course is closed to international applicants.2
  • A-Levels and predicted grades earn no points in the pre-interview score.2
  • If your most recent qualification isn't GCSEs (post-A-Level and graduate applicants), your UCAT score is doubled in place of the GCSE score.2
  • Ties are broken by the higher UCAT total.2
  • The threshold depends on each year's applicants - our estimate is that 45 out of 60 gives a realistic chance of an interview.2
