Entry requirements

A-Levels

  • You must be taking Chemistry or Biology and another science (Maths counts as a science); the third subject is free choice. Predicted grades must meet the same published minimums.1
  • General Studies isn't accepted.1

GCSE

  • You need GCSE Biology or Chemistry at grade 7 if not studied at A-Level - Dundee's own page also words this as Biology and Chemistry at grade 7, so aim for both.2
  • You also need GCSE Mathematics and English at grade 6 if not studied at A-Level.1

UCAT

  • You must sit the UCAT in your application year. There's no minimum cut-off score.3
  • Your SJT band isn't used in the initial selection for interview.4

Resits & reapplying

  • Resits aren't accepted. A-Levels must be achieved in the same year (two years after GCSE) and Highers taken in one sitting.2
  • You must have completed academic study within the three years before starting the medicine course.1

Selection & shortlisting

  • Dundee ranks you on a single score out of 100: academics 60% and UCAT 40%. The academic score is out of 10, from published tables, scaled x6:
    • Predicted A-Levels - up to 4 points (x6). AAAA or A*A*A* = 4, A*A*A = 3, A*AA or AAA = 2. Maths/Further Maths and Biology/Human Biology count as one subject; General Studies and the EPQ don't count.
    • GCSEs - up to 4 points (x6). Your best 8 grades, with A* = 9 or 8, A = 7, B = 6: 8A* = 4, 6A*2A = 4, 4A*4A = 3, 2A*6A = 2, 8A = 1.
    • Priority subjects - up to 2 points (x6). A* in GCSE Chemistry and Biology = 2, one of them = 1.
    • UCAT - 40 points. By decile: top decile = 40, 4 points fewer per decile down to 4. Dundee confirmed the 40% weight but not its points table - the decile steps are our estimate.
  • Dundee confirmed the 60/40 weighting and its academic tables but not how the UCAT is converted to points - our decile steps are an estimate. Applicants with fewer than 8 GCSEs are assessed manually by Dundee. Dundee doesn't disclose a cut-off.
