Entry requirements

A-Levels

Offer: AAA including Chemistry or Biology and another science (Maths counts as a science); the third subject is free choice. All three must be taken in the same sitting, two years after GCSE, and predicted grades must meet the same published minimums. [8]

General Studies is not accepted. [9]

GCSE

Biology and Chemistry at GCSE grade 7 are required. [20]

Mathematics and English at GCSE grade 6 are required if not studied at A-Level. [21]

Achievement at GCSE and AS-level is also taken into account when assessing applications. [22]

UCAT

No minimum UCAT cut-off score — every applicant who sits the UCAT is considered, with UCAT and academics feeding shortlisting together. Detailed scoring methodology is FOI-withheld. [23]

No SJT band exclusion — SJT bands are not used in the initial selection for interview; whether the SJT is used later in the process is FOI-withheld. [24]

International Baccalaureate

Offer: 37 points including 6, 6, 6 at Higher Level, with HL Chemistry or Biology and another science (Maths counts as a science). [10]

Supplying previously certified grades from nationally recognised exams is advised for a competitive application. [11]

Scottish Highers

Offer: AAAAB at Higher in one sitting plus BB at Advanced Higher in S6 (required of all candidates), including Higher Chemistry or Biology and another science (Maths counts as a science), with Biology and Chemistry at National 5 grade A. [12]

The other three Highers are free choice — subject choice does not influence the assessment. [13]

Mathematics and English at National 5 grade B are also required if not studied at Higher. [14]

Other qualifications

SWAP East Access to Medical Sciences is accepted with AAA and over 80% in all key subject areas; Edinburgh College's Access to Medical Studies course is also accepted. [16]

Dundee also runs Gateway to Medicine (A104) — a one-year widening-access course for Scottish residents; reaching a good standard gives a direct entry place onto level 1 of the Medicine course, and the UCAT is not required for the Gateway year. [17]

Graduates: a minimum of an upper second class (2:1) Honours degree in a relevant life science subject, which should be the first degree obtained. [18]

Current undergraduate students are not eligible — except final-year students applying via the graduate route. [19]

Irish Leaving Certificate

Irish (ROI) applicants are considered — Dundee groups them with RUK applicants in its published admissions data; check the Leaving Certificate grades on Dundee's online entry-requirements selector. [15]

Qualification policies

Resits are not accepted — A-Levels must be taken in the same sitting (achieved in the same year, two years after GCSE) and Highers in one sitting. [6]

Recent academic study is required — applicants must have completed academic study in the three years before starting the medicine course. [7]
