Entry requirements
A-Levels
- You must be taking Biology and Chemistry, one of them at A*. Predicted and achieved grades alike must meet A*AA.1
- General Studies, Critical Thinking and Global Perspectives and Research are not accepted.2
- At least two A-Levels must be from UCL's preferred subjects list; the third can be in any other subject.2
GCSE
- You need GCSE English Language and Maths at grade B / 6.1
UCAT
Age
- You must be 18 when the course starts - under-18s are considered for a deferred place or advised to reapply.4
Resits & reapplying
- Resits aren't accepted, including re-starting Year 12 - except GCSE resits to meet the GCSE requirement.1
- GCSE resits are accepted to meet the GCSE requirement.4
- Reapplication is allowed - including for candidates previously unsuccessful at interview at UCL.3
- If you previously started but did not complete a medicine degree at another medical school, you will not usually be considered; after a withdrawal on health grounds UCL expects you to return to your previous institution.5
- Transfers into the MBBS from other courses are not accepted.5

Selection & shortlisting
- All applicants who meet the minimum requirements are ranked and selected by their total UCAT score - the SJT only breaks ties between candidates on the same total.3
- Home, Overseas and Access UCL (contextual) candidates are ranked in three separate pools, each with its own UCAT threshold.3
- GCSEs, A-Levels and the personal statement aren't scored for shortlisting.3
- Graduates are ranked in the same pool as school-leavers.3
- In 2026 entry the Home threshold was 2190 - our estimate is you'd need around 2230 next cycle.3

Interview & decision
- Multiple Mini Interviews (MMIs). Home applicants interview in person; Overseas applicants interview online.6
- After interview, offers are decided on MMI performance alone - your UCAT doesn't carry forward.
- Deferred entry for a gap year is welcomed and doesn't affect your chances; deferral requests made after an offer are decided case by case.5
- MMIs assess academic curiosity, motivation for medicine, problem-solving, professional values, teamwork/resilience and communication.3
