Entry requirements

A-Levels

Offer: AAA including Biology (or Human Biology) and Chemistry. Predicted grades are not used at any stage — A-Level grades only set the conditions of an offer made after interview. [2]

Citizenship Studies, Critical Thinking, General Studies and Global Perspectives are not accepted as the third A-Level. [3]

A-Level resits are considered for up to two A-Levels only if completed in the last 12 months, you had already achieved at least ABB with at least one A in Biology/Human Biology or Chemistry, and the resit grades meet AAA including Biology (or Human Biology) and Chemistry. Otherwise three A-Levels must be passed at the required grades in one sitting over a maximum two-year period. [4]

A-Levels, AS-Levels and predicted grades are not scored — they only set the conditions of any offer made after interview. [5]

A pass in science practical tests is required where these are assessed separately. [6]

GCSE

Minimum six GCSEs at grade 7 (A) including Biology and Chemistry (or Human Biology / Double Science equivalents), plus at least grade 6 (B) in Maths and English Language. [12]

At least six GCSEs at grade 7 (A) are required to reach the scoring stage; the required grades must be achieved in one sitting over a two-year period. [13]

One GCSE resit is allowed — in Maths, English Language, Biology, Human Biology, Chemistry or Double Science — and the achieved resit grade must be at least 6 (B) in Maths/English Language or 7 (A) in the sciences. [14]

UCAT

No fixed minimum UCAT score — the interview threshold is set dynamically each year from the applicant pool and is never published. [15]

SJT Band 4 is an automatic pre-interview rejection — Band 4 applicants are not considered for interview. [16]

The UCAT must be sat in the same year as the application is made for the course. [17]

International Baccalaureate

Offer: 34 points overall with HL 6 in Biology and HL 6 in Chemistry — or 6,6,6 in three HL Certificates including HL 6 in Biology and HL 6 in Chemistry. Predicted grades are not used in selection. [7]

Scottish Highers

Offer: AA at Advanced Higher in Biology and Chemistry, plus AAAAB at Higher including Biology, Chemistry, Maths and English Language — grade A in Biology and Chemistry. [8]

BTEC

BTEC Nationals are not accepted for entry to this course. [9]

Other qualifications

The Access to HE Diploma is not accepted for entry to this course (the Access to Medicine Diploma is considered only for the A108 foundation-year course). [9]

Graduates: 2:1 honours degree in any subject (a 2:2 plus a taught master's at merit or above is considered), completed within its intended length, with A-Level Biology at grade B for non-bioscience degrees with insufficient biology content and GCSE Maths at 6 (B). Graduate applicants are ranked on UCAT alone. [10]

Graduates may apply for either the A100 five-year or A101 four-year course, not both in the same year of entry. [11]

Age

Nottingham accepts applicants aged 17 or above onto the course (under-18 applicants are subject to the University's Under 18 policy). [18]

Application history

Reapplications are welcome, but you can be interviewed a maximum of three times across Nottingham's medicine courses — and after a second interview you must usually wait three academic years before the final application. [19]

Applicants who started but did not complete a medical degree at another UK institution are not accepted (limited exception for study abroad interrupted by non-academic reasons such as war). [20]

Transfers are not accepted — neither from another Nottingham course nor from another university (including transfers from other medical schools). [21]
