Entry requirements

A-Levels

Offer: A*AA, or AAA + EPQ grade A. Already-achieved grades of AAA count only if gained at the first attempt — otherwise A*AA is needed. Predicted grades are not used at any point in selection. [12]

Subjects: a first from Biology or Chemistry, a second from Biology, Chemistry, Economics, Maths/Further Maths/Statistics, Physics or Psychology, plus a third academic subject. Only one of Maths/Further Maths/Statistics counts; General Studies, Critical Thinking and Citizenship Studies are not accepted. [13]

Resitters must reach A*AA (AAA only counts at the first attempt), and all three A-Levels must be completed within three years. [14]

Applicants currently in their third year of A-Level study are not considered unless grades are already achieved and they're adding subjects, or extenuating circumstances apply. [15]

A 360-GLH AAQ at D* (e.g. BTEC National extended certificate) can replace the third A-Level — but not Applied Science, and not Human Biology alongside Biology A-Level. [16]

GCSE

Grade 6/B minimum in English Language and Maths — these are essential and must be achieved before applying. [25]

Biology, Chemistry and Physics GCSEs at 6/B unless passed at A-Level grade B or better. Combined science 6/6 is accepted; Biology and Chemistry without Physics is not. [26]

Five GCSEs at grade 7/A are required (in addition to the grade-6/B minimums above). [27]

All GCSE requirements must be met before you apply — the only exception is Access to HE applicants, who may complete GCSE English Language and Maths during their application year. [28]

UCAT

Home applicants need a UCAT total of at least 1,700. Below 1,700 the application is not considered. [29]

SJT Band 4 is an automatic rejection (home and international). [30]

International Baccalaureate

Offer: 37 points (including ToK/EE) with 6+ at Higher Level in Biology or Chemistry plus one of Biology, Chemistry, Economics, Maths, Physics or Psychology — or 7,6,6 at Higher Level in those subjects. Sciences not at Higher Level need Standard Level 5 or GCSE 6. Predicted grades are not used. [17]

English Language (Language A) at Standard Level grade 6 is accepted in lieu of GCSE English Language. [18]

Scottish Highers

Offer: BBBBB at Higher plus BB at two Advanced Highers including Chemistry or Biology and a second science — or AA in two Advanced Highers (including Chemistry or Biology) plus AA in the interdisciplinary project unit and one Higher, with Chemistry or Biology at Advanced Higher grade A. National 5 requirements (matching the GCSE rules) also apply. [19]

BTEC

No standalone BTEC route to A100 — level-3 BTECs and T-Levels are accepted only for A104 (Health Foundation Year). A 360-GLH AAQ at D* can replace the third A-Level only. [21]

Other qualifications

Access to HE Diploma (Medicine) meeting the QAA medicine subject descriptor, with 45 graded level-3 credits at Distinction plus 15 level-2/3 credits passed. Restricted to applicants who have been out of formal education for 3+ years before starting the Access course. [22]

Grade A in the Welsh Baccalaureate Advanced Diploma plus A*A in two full science A-Levels taken within two years — Chemistry or Biology essential plus one designated subject. [23]

T-Levels are not accepted for A100 — they are a route into A104 (Health Foundation Year) only. [21]

Graduates: 1st or 2:1 in any subject plus BBB at A-Level (or equivalent) including the designated subjects. GAMSAT can replace unmet A-Level or science-GCSE requirements; postgraduate qualifications are not considered. [24]

Irish Leaving Certificate

Offer: six H1/H2 grades at Higher Level including Biology or Chemistry plus two more from Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Agricultural Science or Maths/Applied Maths. Junior Cycle: five Higher Merits including English and Maths (Higher) and Science at Merit. [20]

Age

You must turn 18 before 1 October of your entry year; if not, apply for deferred entry. [31]

Application history

You may reapply to Keele once; any further applications will not be considered, and you may not reapply within the same UCAS cycle. [32]

Applicants who have previously commenced study of medicine, dentistry or veterinary medicine elsewhere (without completing) will not usually be considered via any route. [33]

Transfers from other medical schools are not usually considered, and there is no internal transfer route into Keele Medicine from other Keele courses or foundation years. [34]

Section 02

How Keele selects for interview

2025-entry home threshold: 15/25 (UCAT grade /10 + personal statement /15). Applicants scoring 14/25 were also invited if their UCAT Verbal Reasoning was 600 or higher. The threshold is not set in advance — it emerges from the applicant pool each year. Because the personal-statement half of the /25 is unpredictable, this composite cutoff cannot be reached from modellable inputs, so no engine cutoff is applied (treat 15/25 as indicative, not a UCAT target). [35]

The shortlisting cutoff is on a /25 composite (UCAT grade /10 + personal statement /15) — NOT a UCAT-score scale. [36]
