Entry requirements

A-Levels

Offer: A*AA including Chemistry and Biology (with practical passes) — the A* must be in Biology or Chemistry; any third subject except General Studies and Critical Thinking. Predicted grades aren't used at any stage of selection. [6]

Taking more than three A-Levels? Chemistry, Biology and your next best grade are the ones considered. [7]

GCSE

Grade B/6 minimum in English Language, Maths, Chemistry and Biology (or Double Science). [17]

At least six GCSEs at grade B/6 or above. [17]

A lower GCSE English Language grade can be offset by IELTS 7.0 overall with 7.0 in every section. [18]

UCAT

No UCAT cut-off score — UCAT total is a ranking input rather than a threshold.

SJT band is not used in shortlisting at Aston. [19]

UCAT (or UCATSEN) must be sat in the year of application — the summer/early autumn before the course starts. [20]

International Baccalaureate

Offer: 37 points with 7,6,6 at Higher Level including Chemistry and Biology — one of the two at HL grade 7. Predicted grades aren't used. [8]

IB Middle Years Programme (in lieu of GCSEs): grade 4 in Maths, plus grade 4 in English for Home applicants. [9]

Scottish Highers

Offer: AAA at Advanced Higher including Chemistry and Biology. [10]

BTEC

DDD in the BTEC National Extended Diploma in Applied Science, combined with Chemistry and Biology A-Levels at A*A (in either order). [11]

Other qualifications

Access courses are not accepted for this course. [12]

A range of UK-based medical Foundation Programmes may be considered — contact the admissions team for the accepted list. [13]

T Levels are not accepted for the MBChB programme. [14]

Graduates: 2:1 honours in any discipline (UK ENIC-approved university) plus ABB at A-Level including Chemistry and Biology with either at grade A, and the standard GCSE requirements. Apply in the final year of your degree — predicted degree class is considered. No accelerated route: graduates complete the full five years. [15]

Current undergraduates not in the final year of their degree are not considered. [16]

Qualification policies

Resits are considered (with or without repeating a year), but the full qualification profile must be completed within three academic years — i.e. one resit year only. [5]

Application history

Applicants who have previously studied or withdrawn from a medical degree are not accepted. [21]

Reapplication is allowed — unless a previous Aston MMI was failed for one or more red flags. [22]

Transfers are not accepted — applicants cannot transfer in from a medical or non-medical degree at another university. [23]

Having withdrawn from any degree (medical or not, in the UK or abroad) also rules you out. [24]

Section 02

How Aston selects for interview

Composite weights are UCAT 1/3 + Academic (GCSE) 2/3 — UCAT scored as a percentage of the total; GCSE academic score uses the four required subjects (English Language, Maths, Biology, Chemistry) plus the two best other GCSEs.

Home, international and contextual cohorts are ranked in separate pools. Graduate applicants are not ranked separately.
