Aston scores applicants out of 100, inviting the top scorers in each pool to interview:
1- GCSEs - two-thirds of the score (English Language, Maths, Biology and Chemistry plus your two best others).
- UCAT - one-third of the score (your total as a percentage of the maximum).
- After interview, offers are decided on a weighted total: 50% academic score, 25% UCAT, 25% interview (MMI).

- You must be 18 or over by 1 October of your entry year (a clinical-placement requirement) - under-18s can't be considered or offered a deferral.1
Resits & reapplying
- You can resit - with or without repeating a year - but your full qualification profile must be completed within three academic years, i.e. one resit year only.1
- Reapplying is fine - unless a previous Aston MMI was failed for one or more red flags.2
- You're not considered if you've previously studied or withdrawn from a medical degree, in the UK or abroad.1
- Transfers aren't accepted - you can't transfer in from any degree at another university, medical or not.1
- Having withdrawn from any degree (medical or not, in the UK or abroad) also rules you out.1
Selection & shortlisting
- Aston ranks you for interview on a single score out of 100, built from two parts:1
- GCSEs - two-thirds of the score. Six subjects count: the four required (English Language, Maths, Biology, Chemistry) plus your two best others - each scored 9/8 = 4 points, 7 = 3, 6 = 2, 5/4 = 1 (max 24).2
- UCAT - one-third of the score. Your total, scored as a percentage of the maximum.
- The personal statement can't trigger rejection and references are only screened for red flags - neither is scored.1
- In 2025 the lowest Home score invited to interview was 88 out of 100 - our estimate is you'd need around 89 next cycle.
- Home, international and contextual applicants are ranked in separate pools. Graduates aren't ranked separately.

- The interview is a compulsory MMI - stations assess understanding of medicine, motivation, communication, listening, problem solving, teamwork and professionalism.1
- Offers aren't decided on the interview alone - they come from a weighted combination: 50% academic score, 25% UCAT, 25% MMI. If the last place lands on a tied total score, everyone on that score receives an offer.
- Deferred entry and gap years are fine when applying via UCAS - post-offer deferrals are case-by-case.1

What UCAT score do you need for Medicine at Aston?
In the 2025 cycle, the lowest UCAT score invited to interview (home applicants) was 1720 (converted from the old 4-section scale). You must sit the UCAT (or UCATSEN) in your year of application. There's no UCAT score requirement - your total makes up a third of the pre-interview ranking score. Your SJT band isn't used - it plays no part in the ranking, and no band is auto-rejected. What A-Levels do you need for Aston Medicine?
You must be taking Chemistry and Biology (with practical passes); any third subject counts except General Studies and Critical Thinking. Predicted grades aren't used at any stage. If you take more than three A-Levels, only Chemistry, Biology and your next best grade count.
What are the GCSE requirements for Aston Medicine?
