A-Levels
- Your first A-Level must be Chemistry or Biology, your second a further science (Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Maths); the third can be any subject. Predictions must be at least A*AA.1
- Further Maths isn't accepted if Maths is your second A-Level, and doesn't count towards the A*AA if taken in the same sitting as Maths.1
- Extenuating circumstances can't be applied to a UCAT score.2

- You must be 18 by the start of the course (mid-September) - younger applicants can apply for deferred entry.1
Resits & reapplying
- Resits are accepted only with an approved Extenuating Circumstances application (serious illness, adverse personal or family circumstances, or bereavement around your exams), approved before you apply. You need at least BBB at first sitting and must have applied to QMUL MBBS/BDS in the previous cycle.2
- Reapplying the following year is fine, without prejudice - provided you achieved the required grades at first attempt.3
Selection & shortlisting
- QMUL ranks you for interview on a single score out of 2868, built from two parts:3
- UCAT - up to 2700 points. Your raw total, added directly - by far the bigger part of the score.
- A-Level tariff - up to 168 points. AAA = 144, A*AA = 152, A*A*A = 160, A*A*A* = 168 - predicted and achieved grades score identically.
- GCSEs, the personal statement and reference score nothing - though a statement written for a different programme can trigger rejection. The SJT adds a tiny bonus on top (Band 1 = 2, Band 2 = 1).3
- Graduates are ranked within the Home pool on a degree-based score instead of the A-Level tariff.3
- In 2026 the Home threshold for interview was 2198 (UCAT total plus A-Level tariff; lowest UCAT invited 2030) - our estimate is you'd need around 2240 next cycle.
- Home, Overseas and contextual applicants are ranked in separate pools, each with its own offer numbers.4

Our estimate of the contextual borderline is around 1940 (UCAT + tariff). Enhanced-route applicants get a guaranteed interview, provided they meet the minimum GCSEs, are predicted at least AAA, and are within or above the UCAT 4th decile with SJT Band 1-3.
Interview & decision
- An online panel interview, held January to February, with two senior academic or clinical staff - assessing motivation, resilience, teamwork, organisation, communication and contribution to university life.3
- Offers are decided on your overall interview score (the two selectors' marks plus your SJT points); QMUL reserves the right to weigh tariff and UCAT again at this stage.3
- Deferred entry is accepted.1
- GCSE/IGCSE English Language grade 6/B, or IELTS 7.0 overall with 6.0 in all components (taken within two years of starting).1
Conditional offer
- Conditional offer: A*AA, achieved in one sitting over no more than two years - the A* can be in any of the three subjects.1

What UCAT score do you need for Medicine at QMUL?
In the 2025 cycle, the lowest UCAT score invited to interview (home applicants) was 1980 (converted from the old 4-section scale). There's no fixed UCAT cutoff - your total must be within or above the 4th decile of the applicant pool, so the floor moves each year. No UCAT exemptions or waivers are granted.
