Section 01

Entry requirements

A-Levels

Offer: A*AA in one sitting over no more than two years — first A-Level Chemistry or Biology, second a further science (Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Maths), third any subject; the A* can be in any of the three. You must be predicted at least A*AA (a UCAS Tariff of 152) to pass first shortlisting. [7]

Further Maths is not accepted if Maths is your second A-Level, and does not count towards the A*AA minimum if taken in the same sitting as Maths. [8]

Achieved-grade applicants are treated identically to predicted-grade applicants in ranking — no advantage either way.

Extenuating circumstances cannot be applied to a UCAT score — only to academic-qualification timing/grades. [9]

GCSE

Six GCSEs at 777666 (three at grade 7, three at grade 6) including Biology, Chemistry, English (Language or Literature) and Maths; Science Double Award may substitute the separate sciences. [16]

Six GCSEs at grade 6 or above (three of them at grade 7). GCSEs are a gate only — they are not scored or capped, and are not required for graduates or international applicants without GCSEs. [16]

UCAT

No fixed minimum UCAT total — but applicants below the 4th decile are rejected at first shortlisting. The decile threshold is set dynamically from the applicant pool each year (e.g. the 4th-decile floor was a 2361 total in both 2024 and 2025 entry, on the old 4-section scale). No UCAT exemptions or waivers are granted under any circumstances. [17]

SJT Band 4 is an automatic rejection at first shortlisting. [18]

International Baccalaureate

Offer: 37 points with 6,6,6 at Higher Level including Chemistry or Biology plus one further science (Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Maths). [10]

Scottish Highers

Offer: three Highers at AAA including Chemistry and Biology, plus two Advanced Highers at AA including Chemistry or Biology and one further science (Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Maths). [11]

BTEC

BTECs are not accepted — BTEC HNC/HND is on the published list of qualifications not considered for entry, and no BTEC route is published. [13]

Other qualifications

Access courses, foundation and pre-medical programmes are not accepted for entry to Medicine. [14]

Graduates: 2:1 (or above) in a Molecular/Biomedical Sciences degree (no further qualifications required) — or a 2:1 in any subject plus A-Level BB in Chemistry or Biology and one further science (Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Maths). GCSEs are not required for graduates. [15]

Irish Leaving Certificate

Offer: H1 H1 H1 H2 H2 at Higher Level including H1 in Chemistry or Biology plus one other science (Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Maths). [12]

Qualification policies

Resits are accepted only via an approved Extenuating Circumstances application (circumstances must fall within the Equality Act 2010, approved by the EC panel before the UCAS application). Resit applicants must have achieved at least BBB (or equivalent) at first sitting and must have applied to QMUL MBBS/BDS in the previous cycle. [6]

Age

Applicants must be 18 by the start of the course (mid-September); under-18s may apply for deferred entry to meet the age requirement the following year. [19]

Application history

Reapplications are accepted. Unsuccessful candidates cannot be reconsidered within the same cycle but may reapply the following year without prejudice — provided they obtain the relevant qualifications at the first attempt. [20]

Section 02

How QMUL selects for interview

UCAT cognitive total is ranked directly (raw score) against other applicants in the same pool.

UCAS tariff of entry grades adds to the score: AAA = 144, A*AA = 152, A*A*A = 160, A*A*A* = 168 (predicted and achieved grades score identically).
