Section 01

Entry requirements

A-Levels

Standard conditional offer: AAA (school leavers — the school's average attainment can set it at AAB instead, see contextual offers). Applicants with achieved A-Levels need AAB minimum, in three A-Levels taken in the same examination year. Predicted grades are not used at any stage. [4]

Must include Chemistry and/or Biology. If both are *not* offered, one other from Physics, Maths, Psychology or Computer Science is required. Critical Thinking and General Studies are not accepted, and a pass in the practical endorsement is required for any science A-Level. [5]

A-Level resits are not accepted, except via the extenuating-circumstances process where there were issues affecting the first sit. [6]

The A-Level/IB course should normally be completed within 2 years — a longer period of study needs an extenuating-circumstances application. [7]

GCSE

Minimum 5 GCSEs at grade 9–6 (A*–B) including English Language, Maths, Biology, Chemistry and PhysicsDouble Science plus one other subject is accepted as an alternative to the three separate sciences. [17]

At least 5 GCSEs at 9–6 are required. For school-leaver (group A) selection, the best-8 GCSE Attainment-8 score is then used at stage 2b (judged relative to the applicant's school average — see Selection). [18]

GCSE resits are accepted towards the minimum requirements (results must be obtained before applying). [19]

Offering only 2 separate GCSE sciences (rather than three, or Double Science) requires an extenuating-circumstances application. [20]

UCAT

No durable fixed UCAT minimum — the threshold is set *after* all applications and UCAT results are received. For 2026 entry it was a total of ≥2490 (47th centile); KMMS does not commit to the same threshold for 2027 entry. [21]

The UCAT threshold requires SJT band 3 or above for groups A/B/C (band 2 or above for graduate applicants) — SJT band 4 is excluded across all groups. [22]

International Baccalaureate

Standard offer: 36 points (the contextual offer is 34 — see contextual offers); applicants with the achieved IB Diploma need 34 points minimum. Higher Level must include Chemistry and/or Biology; if only one is offered at HL, a second HL science from Physics, Maths or Psychology is required, with a minimum of 6 in both HL sciences. Predicted grades are not used. [8]

Scottish Highers

No fixed Scottish Highers grades are published — applicants with Scottish qualifications are considered in Group C (KMMS has no school data to contextualise them), applying the same stage-1 minimum requirements as groups A/B as far as possible. Group C selection at stage 2b is subjective (reference + personal statement) and may require an extra online assessment (Casper in 2026-7). [9]

BTEC

BTEC qualifications are not accepted — not in lieu of A-Levels or the IB Diploma, and not in mixed level-3 combinations (only 3 A-Levels or the IB Diploma are accepted at level 3). [10]

Other qualifications

Access to HE (Medicine) Diploma (group C route): 45 Level 3 credits — 30 at Distinction and 15 at Merit, including 15 credits in Chemistry or Biology with at least 12 at Distinction, plus GCSE English Language at B/6 or above. Only courses matching the QAA Access to HE (Medicine) 2021 subject descriptor are accepted. [11]

Access results must be achieved before applying — currently-enrolled applicants with pending results are not considered. [12]

The Access route is closed to anyone who sat Level 3 examinations within the previous 3 years (to equalise opportunities with the graduate pathway). [13]

T-Levels are not accepted — only 3 A-Levels or the IB Diploma are accepted at level 3. [14]

Graduates (group D): 2:1 Honours or above (or equivalent) in an acceptable, relevant subject (e.g. Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences — healthcare-practice degrees like Nursing, Pharmacy or Physiotherapy have not been accepted, and degrees in osteopathy, chiropractic or naturopathy are excluded). Masters degrees are not usually considered. Final-year undergraduates receive a conditional 2:1 offer. [15]

Graduates cannot apply with A-Levels or other level-3 qualifications (even in new subjects) — if the degree subject is not accepted, the only pathway is the Access to HE (Medicine) route. [16]

Qualification policies

Academic qualifications (other than degrees) must normally be within the last 3 years before application — KMMS does not assess qualifications that are not current. [3]

Age

Applicants must be 18 by the first clinical placement in term 1 (usually early November of year 1). [23]

Application history

Second (repeat) applications are considered. A third application is only considered if the applicant was not previously interviewed; fourth or later applications are not considered. [24]

Transfers from other medical schools are not accepted. [25]

Section 02

How KMMS selects for interview

Stage 2a is a fixed UCAT total threshold (≥2490 for 2026 entry, 47th centile). Clearing it is necessary and sufficient at this stage — UCAT is *not* used to rank above the threshold. [21]

The most recent published threshold was UCAT total ≥2490 (47th centile, 3-section scale) for 2026 entry. KMMS resets the threshold each cycle after applications close, so this is a calibration point, not a guarantee for 2027. [21]

Frequently asked questions

What UCAT score do you need for Medicine at KMMS?

In the 2025 cycle, the lowest UCAT score invited to interview (home applicants) was 1850 (converted from the old 4-section scale). No durable fixed UCAT minimum — the threshold is set *after* all applications and UCAT results are received. For 2026 entry it was a total of ≥2490 (47th centile); KMMS does not commit to the same threshold for 2027 entry. The UCAT threshold requires SJT band 3 or above for groups A/B/C (band 2 or above for graduate applicants) — SJT band 4 is excluded across all groups. Thresholds move with each year's applicant pool - use our free university selector to see where your score is competitive.

What A-Levels do you need for KMMS Medicine?

Standard conditional offer: AAA (school leavers — the school's average attainment can set it at AAB instead, see contextual offers). Applicants with achieved A-Levels need AAB minimum, in three A-Levels taken in the same examination year. Predicted grades are not used at any stage. Must include Chemistry and/or Biology. If both are *not* offered, one other from Physics, Maths, Psychology or Computer Science is required. Critical Thinking and General Studies are not accepted, and a pass in the practical endorsement is required for any science A-Level.

What are the GCSE requirements for KMMS Medicine?

Minimum 5 GCSEs at grade 9–6 (A*–B) including English Language, Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Physics — Double Science plus one other subject is accepted as an alternative to the three separate sciences. At least 5 GCSEs at 9–6 are required. For school-leaver (group A) selection, the best-8 GCSE Attainment-8 score is then used at stage 2b (judged relative to the applicant's school average — see Selection).

How does KMMS decide who gets a Medicine interview?

Stage 2a is a fixed UCAT total threshold (≥2490 for 2026 entry, 47th centile). Clearing it is necessary and sufficient at this stage — UCAT is *not* used to rank above the threshold. The most recent published threshold was UCAT total ≥2490 (47th centile, 3-section scale) for 2026 entry. KMMS resets the threshold each cycle after applications close, so this is a calibration point, not a guarantee for 2027.
