KMMS shortlists for interview in three stages, using its own naming:
1- Stage 1 - minimum GCSE requirements. An eligibility check, not a score.
- Stage 2a - UCAT threshold. Set each year after all applications are in - about 1870 in 2025 (converted to the 2700 scale; 47th centile). A higher score gives no further advantage.
- Stage 2b - contextualisation to your school's average. Your GCSE Attainment 8 is compared with your school's average - relative attainment decides who is interviewed. We can't calculate this stage, so we can't predict the final interview shortlist.

A-Levels
- You must be taking Chemistry and/or Biology - if not both, one other from Physics, Maths, Psychology or Computer Science. If you already hold your A-Levels, you need AAB achieved.1
- Critical Thinking and General Studies aren't accepted.1
- Predicted grades aren't used at any stage - KMMS selects on achieved grades only.1
- All three A-Levels must be taken in the same examination year, with the course completed within 2 years - longer needs an extenuating-circumstances application.1
- You must pass the practical endorsement in any science A-Level.1
GCSE
- You need at least 5 GCSEs at grade 9-6 (A*-B) including English Language, Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Physics - Double Science plus one other subject is accepted instead of the three separate sciences.1
- As a school leaver, your best-8 GCSE Attainment 8 score is also used in selection, judged relative to your school's average.1
- Offering only 2 separate GCSE sciences (rather than three, or Double Science) requires an extenuating-circumstances application.1
UCAT
- There's no pre-set UCAT minimum - the threshold is set each year after all applications are received. The most recent disclosed threshold was 1870 (converted to the 2700 scale; the 47th centile).1
- You need SJT band 3 or above in groups A/B/C (band 2 or above as a graduate) - SJT band 4 is auto-rejected across all groups.1
Age
- You must be 18 by the first clinical placement in term 1 (usually early November of year 1).1
Resits & reapplying
- Your academic qualifications (other than degrees) must normally be within the last 3 years before you apply - older qualifications aren't assessed.1
- A-Level resits are not accepted, except via the extenuating-circumstances process where there were issues affecting the first sit.1
- GCSE resits are accepted towards the minimum requirements (results must be obtained before applying).1
- You can apply twice. A third application needs you to have never been interviewed; a fourth is never considered.1
- Transfers from other medical schools are not accepted.1
Selection & shortlisting
- KMMS shortlists for interview in three stages (its own naming: Stage 1, 2a, 2b):1
- Stage 2a - UCAT threshold. A fixed threshold set each year after all applications are in - about 1870 in 2025 (converted to the 2700 scale; 47th centile). Your UCAT only needs to clear the threshold - above it, the UCAT isn't used again; Stage 2b decides who is interviewed.1
- The Stage 2a threshold sits around the 45th-50th percentile each year - our estimate for 2027 is around 1880 on today's 3-section scale.1
- Our rating covers Stages 1-2a (the GCSE minimums and the UCAT threshold). We can't calculate Stage 2b - your attainment relative to your school's average - so we can predict who reaches Stage 2b, not who is invited to interview.
- Overseas applicants (Group E) are ranked entirely separately from home. The home groups are ranked separately too - A (pre-A-Level/IB with English school data), B (post-A-Level/IB, or final-year undergraduates), C (no standard school data: Scottish or international qualifications, or no GCSEs), D (graduates in a relevant subject) - with interview places allocated in proportion to each group's share of the pool.
- Group C applicants (no standard school data - including Scottish qualifications and home-educated applicants) are selected subjectively: your reference and personal statement matter, and an extra online assessment (Casper in 2026-7) can be required.1
- Stage 2b - contextualisation. Your GCSE Attainment 8 score is compared with the average for your school - relative attainment, not absolute, drives shortlisting. The exact weightings aren't published.
- This applies to every UK-schooled applicant - no postcodes or family data are used, and independent-school applicants are compared against their own school's published results.1
- The personal statement and reference aren't scored - they're only read for around 100 borderline applicants.
- A UCAS reference is mandatory - stating a waiver means automatic rejection. It must come from a workplace email, from an academic referee if you studied in the past 3 years - never friends, family or paid tutors.1
