Entry requirements

A-Levels

Offer: AAA including Chemistry or Biology, a second science from Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Maths, and any third subject. You must meet, or be predicted to meet, AAA at initial screening. [5]

General Studies is not accepted as the third subject; Brunel's Medical Schools Council listing also excludes Critical Thinking. [5]

Brunel's Medical Schools Council listing gives the A-Level range as AAA–AAB (third subject at A/B); Brunel's own course page publishes AAA as the standard requirement. [6]

GCSE

Five GCSEs at grade 6/B or above including two sciences, plus grade 5/B in Maths and grade 4/C in English Language. [14]

Minimum 5 GCSEs at grade 6/B required. [14]

GCSE grades are not used in selection — they function as an eligibility gate only.

Brunel's Medical Schools Council listing words the floors as 5 GCSEs at B/6 including B/5 in Maths and BB/66 in two of Double Science, Biology, Chemistry or Physics. [15]

UCAT

No fixed UCAT cut-off — selection is competitive and based on overall UCAT performance relative to other applicants in the same cycle. [16]

SJT Band 4 is automatically rejected; no other SJT use in selection — Brunel describes itself as 'moderate', excluding only Band 4. [17]

UCAT/GAMSAT is required for Home applicants only — international applicants are not screened on an admissions test. [18]

International Baccalaureate

Offer: 36 points including Higher Level 6 in Chemistry or Biology and HL 6 in a second science (Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Maths). [7]

Brunel's Medical Schools Council listing words the IB requirement slightly more leniently — 36 overall with 6 and 5 at HL in the two science subjects. [8]

Scottish Highers

Scottish Highers/Advanced Highers: AAA–AAB including grade A in Biology or Chemistry, grade A in a second science (Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Maths) and A/B in a third subject — published on Brunel's Medical Schools Council listing; Brunel's own page does not detail Scottish qualifications. [9]

BTEC

BTEC qualifications are not accepted. [10]

Other qualifications

Brunel does not publish an Access to HE position for the MBBS — applicants with unlisted qualifications are asked to contact the Admissions Office to check acceptability and a typical offer. [11]

Graduates: 2:1 Bachelor's degree or Master's with Merit in a subject relevant to Medicine, awarded within 5 years of application. Graduate applicants may sit GAMSAT instead of UCAT. [12]

GAMSAT scores are valid for two years prior to entry (UCAT must be sat in the year you apply). [13]

Qualification policies

Resits are considered — Brunel will consider applicants who have retaken their A-Levels or equivalent qualifications. [3]

Qualifications must be awarded within 5 years of application (degree, or A-Levels/equivalents if no degree) — older qualifications may be acceptable if you have been working in a relevant field since. [4]

Age

Applicants must be 18 or above by 31 October of the entry year. [19]

Application history

Previous enrolment on any medicine course (UK or abroad, completed or not) normally excludes you from entry. [20]

Transfers from an uncompleted undergraduate science or medicine programme are normally excluded. [21]

How Brunel selects for interview

Home and international applicants are ranked separately through different selection paths. [22]

Home applicants are ranked by overall UCAT score — no section weighting, no composite algorithm; highest scorers invited first until the agreed offer target is met. [23]
