Buckingham Medicine: Entry Requirements & UCAT Cutoff (2027 Entry)
The grades and UCAT score you need for Medicine (A100) at University of Buckingham (Buckingham Medical School), how shortlisting works, and where the thresholds have fallen - sourced line-by-line from the university's own publications.
Entry requirements
A-Levels
Applicants should have, or be likely to obtain before the course begins, a minimum of ABB in three A-Levels including Chemistry or Biology. [3]
General Studies is not accepted. [4]
Resits are considered only with significant mitigation — applicants with BBB at the first attempt can apply while resitting; those with lower first-attempt grades can apply only after achieving ABB (predicted grades are not considered for resitters). [5]
GCSE
UCAT
Buckingham does not use the UCAT (or BMAT) at any stage — the pre-interview test is its own digital Multiple Mini Assessment (MMA). [15]
International Baccalaureate
Offer: 32 points (excluding ToK/EE) with 3 Higher Level subjects, including HL6 in Chemistry or Biology and at least HL5 in the other — both must be taken. [6]
Buckingham's country-requirements PDF and applicant VLE still list an older 34-point IB threshold; the current course page (January 2027 entry) states 32 points and is treated as canonical. [7]
Scottish Highers
Offer: AABBB at Higher (S5) plus two Advanced Highers at BB minimum, including Chemistry and one from Biology or Maths. [8]
BTEC
BTECs are not accepted — the qualification is not considered sufficient. [10]
Other qualifications
A grade A or B in the Welsh Baccalaureate is accepted in lieu of a third A-Level — Chemistry or Biology A-Levels are still required, with ABB combined. [11]
Graduates need a Bachelor degree in a subject cognate to Medicine at 2:1 (achieved or predicted). Buckingham Pre-Med (CertHE Medical Sciences) students need at least 70% (achieved or predicted). [12]
Irish Leaving Certificate
Offer: H23333 in the Irish Leaving Certificate, including Chemistry or Biology at H2. [9]
Qualification policies
Academic qualifications older than 5 years are not considered. [2]
How Buckingham selects for interview
Stage 1 (Academic Screening) judges the written application on academic achievement — it must be comparable to entrants at other UK medical schools; ability to pay the fees does not compensate for weaker grades. [18]
Selection is not score-ranked pre-interview — all applicants meeting the academic threshold are invited to the MMA.
