How Imperial selects for interview

Selection & shortlisting

  • Home, Overseas/EU and Widening-Participation (contextual) applicants are ranked in separate pools with their own UCAT thresholds.2
  • The 2026 Home threshold was 2320 - our estimate is you'd need around 2360 next cycle.1
  • Once you're through the eligibility check, your UCAT total is the entire ranking - grades just need to meet the entry requirements, and nothing else is scored.2
  • Imperial normally interviews the top third of applicants, with invitations sent on a rolling basis from December.1

Interview & offer

Interview & decision

  • A six-station MMI - each station scores up to 6 points for content and up to 4 for communication.2
  • After interview, offers are decided on interview performance alone - total MMI scores are ranked against an offer threshold that varies each year.
  • Deferred entry is welcomed for a gap year (overseas deferrals are case-by-case).1
  • The MMI assesses commitment to NHS values, motivation and understanding of medicine, empathy, work experience and community activities, and leadership and teamwork.1
  • The personal statement isn't scored, but it feeds the Commitment to Medicine station, which carries equal weight to the other five.2

Conditional offer

  • Conditional offer: A*AA - A* and A in Biology and Chemistry (A* in either) plus A in a third subject.1
