On the day
In person at Hull or York for Home and EU fee status candidates. Overseas fee status candidates are interviewed online via Zoom on a six-station circuit worth 15 points each, with one question per station and two minutes thinking time, and lose 20 points if they miss the compulsory pre-briefing webinar.
Group exercise is a PBL-style discussion with up to 10 candidates, scored by the tutor and an observing medical student; it is worth 22 of the 90 points in person.
You get your first question for each mini-interview and the student station before you go in, with five minutes to think (two minutes online).
The scenario station is a pre-recorded video character you respond to at two points during the video and at the end, wearing over-ear headphones.
Every station has two interviewers who score you independently; each mini-interview and the student station asks exactly two questions, and senior HYMS students run the student station.
Ranked on total score: overall interview score plus up to 10 contextual admissions points (Home applicants only, factored on interview performance). Offers are made after all interviews are complete; borderline candidates have their whole UCAS form reviewed.
