Oxford medicine interview

How Oxford runs its medicine interview: format, stations and timings.

On the day

Interviews for 2026 entry were held remotely on Microsoft Teams on Monday 15 or Tuesday 16 December 2025, with no additional interviews. Each shortlisted applicant is interviewed by two colleges. The University has said the December 2026 interviews (2027 entry) will also be online.

You are interviewed by two colleges, one your choice or allocation and one assigned by computer at random. Do not reveal your college choice, and interviewers do not know your UCAT score.

The number and length of interviews vary by college. Hertford runs a single 25 to 30 minute interview with two or three tutors, while other colleges have run two shorter interviews back to back, one scientific and one clinical. Do not read anything into how many you get.

Panels always include at least one practising clinician. Criteria cover both suitability for medicine and academic potential, including compatibility with the tutorial format.

Expect tutorial-style science problems where tutors steer you with hints and do not expect the right answer unaided. Keep pen and paper handy, as you may be asked to hold workings up to the camera.

You can make notes and keep them in the station.

How offers are made

Each college ranks the candidates it saw. Once the other college's rank and the UCAT score (including the SJT band) are disclosed, colleges finalise their ranking and offers are assigned to a college. Your second college is assigned by computer to equalise the strength of each college's field, and about 425 applicants are interviewed, roughly 2.5 per place.
