On the day

All home fee applicants interview in person at the Medical Biology Centre, Belfast: registration and a briefing take 45 minutes, then the 12-station circuit lasts over an hour. Applicants for the 36 international places sit a separate online MMI on Zoom instead: 7 stations, 2 of them with role players, 1 minute to read the instructions on a shared screen then 5 minutes per station, no rest stations but about 2 minutes between stations while interviewers change breakout rooms, just under an hour in total, and note-taking counts as a breach of the rules.

A 12-station circuit but only 9 count. 5 are interviewer question stations and 4 are role-player stations; the 3 rest stations are done wearing earphones.

Interviewers will repeat a question word for word but never rephrase it or make conversation, and if you finish early you sit in silence for the rest of the 5 minutes.

Nothing is written down and there are no data or graph stations; the 1-minute warning is given by voice-over and the interviewer raising one finger.

Register 45 minutes before your interview time with photo ID; you sign a confidentiality agreement beforehand and cannot take a phone into the interview.

No notes allowed.

3 rest stations in the 12-station circuit, on top of the 9 scored stations.

How offers are made
100%interview performance alone

Offers are based solely on interview performance: interview scores are ranked and offers go to the highest ranked. For home applicants the UCAT Situational Judgement Test (SJT) can be used on borderline applicants with similar interview scores; for international applicants the overall UCAT score and/or SJT may be used. Most decisions are released at the end of March, final ones by late April, and the same rank order is used if places open up in August. The school says interviewees can expect at least a 1 in 2 chance of an offer, and candidates close to the initial offer cut-off may be held until the UCAS decision deadline.
