On the day
Applicants choose in person (early December or early January) or Zoom (late January or early February); same questions and mark schemes across both, with no advantage to either format.
Five 10-minute "discussions" rather than short stations, each led by one assessor working through about four standardised questions and marked out of 20, so depth of answer matters more than speed.
Assessors know nothing about you and personal statements are not used at any stage, so bring your own experiences into the answers yourself.
Online candidates must show photo ID and then pan the camera round the room to prove they are alone with no notes; an invigilator sits in each room.
Timekeeper broadcasts at 5 minutes, 9 minutes and 10 minutes; the interviewer taking notes or reading guidance is part of the marking, not a bad sign.
No notes allowed.
A 90 second break between each discussion; no separate longer break.
Global MMI score out of 100 is ranked and goes to the Admissions Review Group, which makes offers between January and April. BSMS says roughly half of the around 600 interviewees receive an offer; the highest scorers hear first and the rest after the Admissions Board meets in March. The FOI response gave UCAT as the tie-break and said home and international applicants are held to separate thresholds, split by fee status only.
