On the day
Scottish, RUK and RoI fee-rate applicants must attend the assessment half-day in person; applicants domiciled outside the UK and Ireland are likely to be interviewed virtually. 2026 applicants report about two hours on site in total, starting with a welcome talk of about 30 minutes; the two interview stations are about 15 minutes each and the group task about 30 minutes.
Edinburgh calls it an Assessment Day: a half-day on site with a welcome talk, then what the school describes as three stations, each scored by a single selector.
2026 applicants describe those three as two one-to-one interviews of about 15 minutes, each a conversation with several questions and follow-ups, plus a group task of about 30 minutes. The school has not published this breakdown and applicants said the format changed this year, so check your invitation.
In the group task three candidates work through a non-technical prompt while one assessor watches, then each speaks for about a minute; one group was told teamwork is what is assessed, not the presentation.
Your interview score is only half of the final ranking; the academic score, UCAT decile and SJT band you were shortlisted on are carried forward into the offer decision.
The Assessment Day score is 50% of the final score; academic score 25%, UCAT decile 17.5% and SJT band 7.5% make up the rest. Applicants are ranked and offers go to the highest-ranking in each fee category. Where applicants tie on ranked score with limited places left, the individual sections of the score may be looked at again.
